Useful Knowledge for all Classes and Drones

The most important aspect of any character is survival. If you're dead you've lost something, be it time, item drops or even the character itself if it was in Hardcore. For other modes of play survival is less of a requirement but it does mean you don't waste your time or Hellgate Palladium repeating areas or running back to where you left off. So, what will help you survive?

Well there are two things which have a great effect on your overall survival, Armour (gained from equipment which requires Strength to wear) and Hellgate gold Health (usually gained through the Stamina attribute or from +Stats on equipment). This brings us to our second question, which is better to have Armour or Health (Stamina)?

Well, looking at survival being most important lets look at Health and Armour first. How does each of these effect your survival? Say for example your character had 100 health and Hellgate London Palladium, with no armour he takes 100 damage and hes dead, with enough armour to get 50% absorb it now takes 200 damage to kill him but this is where it gets interesting because armour scales exponentially you find you can take 300 damage at 66% absorb and 400 damage at 75% absorb, however the amount of armour required to increase your absorbtion at higher armour values also increases in this fashion so what we need to do is find a happy middle ground between the two. Below is a table to illustrate how armour and health and buy Hellgate Palladium interact to increase your survivability

For those of you who just want a quick reference for estimation:

If you double your health then you halve the number of armour 'break points' needed to get the same Damage Capacity. I do suggest using the formula to calculate it though, it is pretty simple.

  1. Given some healing provides a straight (static) health increase, lower health and higher armour makes those sources e.g. injectors and health regen from items more effective.

  2. Given some healing provides % health returns or scales to heal more over time dependant on your health pool e.g. Surge of Restoration, Prayer of Healing, Drain Life, Witch Doctor and Medpack Retrofit these are no more or less effective no matter how much armour you have.

  3. Therefore if you use injectors a lot then it is better to focus more on armour and if you use percentage healing then while you can choose to go for one or the other it is better to get both Health and Armour to obtain the best Damage Capacity you can, get more cheap Hellgate Palladium, the higher the better.
